Recreation programs and locations in the Town of Inuvik

Have fun with the programs, activities and events in our community. There is something for all ages and interests! For more information on any of these programs or activities, please contact the Recreation Coordinator at the MSC at 867-777-8640.

Playzone
With a two-storey treehouse and attached party room, the MSC Playzone is a popular spot for younger children's parties or to stop in to play on a wet or chilly day. Dropping in is free on demand when the MSC is open, except when the space is rented. Rentals are available by contacting the MSC Front Desk at 867-777-8640.
Dropzone
From May to August, except during major events, the Dropzone is set up in the MSC. Children and youth of all ages can enjoy a range of activities such as bouncy houses, floor hockey, batting practice and table tennis. The Dropzone offers evening youth programming (a drop in fee applies) and party rentals. For more information, or to book rentals, contact the MSC Front Desk at 867-777-8640.
Summer Programs (Camp Kivuni and the Green Shack Program)

The end of school means the beginning of summer fun!

Camp Kivuni is run out of the MSC for several weeks each summer. This structured camp program is designed for children ages 5-12. Fees apply. For more information or to register, please contact the MSC Front Desk at 867-777-8640.

The Green Shack Program, modelled after Edmonton's successful playground program, offers fun and games for children and youth at our various parks and playgrounds. Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., summer staff can be found in a variety of locations organizing activities and games. Schedules are posted on the shacks.

Green Shacks will operate in the following two community parks in 2016

  • Ruyant Park
  • Kugmallit Train Park

Weekly Programs

Depending on community interests, a variety of programs may be offered weekly through the winter. Yoga is continually popular, and everything from crafts to hula hoops has or can be arranged, for adults as well as children and youth. If you are interested in accessing or leading a particular activity, please contact the Recreation Coordinator at 867-777-8640. Programs are advertised on our website, social media feeds and on posters in the community.


Yoga takes place every Monday and Wednesday at the Midnight Sun Complex. 

 

Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. 

 

Both classes are held in the Community Lounge and cost $8.00 per session. 


Aquafit takes place every Thursday and Sunday at the Midnight Sun Complex.

 

Thursdays from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Sundays (Ladies Night) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. 

 

Both classes are held in the Aquatic Centre and cost $8.00 per session. 

Special Events
The Town of Inuvik sponsors and partners with various community events throughout the year, from the Sunrise Festival in January to Canada Day in July. Aboriginal Day on the summer solstice is a big deal here, and is also the day we host the annual Midnight Sun Fun Run, you guessed it, under the Midnight Sun!
