Inuvik Fire Department

Established in 1960, the Inuvik Fire Department is comprised of 36 paid-on-call fire fighters managed and supervised by career Fire Chief and Deputy Chief .

Emergency services provided by the IFD include fire suppression, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, and limited specialized rescue.

Our membership is diverse and representative of the community we serve.  No previous firefighting experience is necessary to join the department and our members undergo rigorous training under competent supervision to ensure safe operations.

Professional development provided by the IFD meets international standards such as the National Fire Protection Association Professional Qualifications and the Northwest Territories Firefighter Code of Conduct.

If you are interested in joining our department, drop by the fire hall to meet our staff and pick up an application.  Our weekly training takes place on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
