This update is to provide the residents of Inuvik with further information regarding the status of the pool at the Midnight Sun Complex.
Earlier this year, the Town closed the pool because of the Public Health Order resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past few years, it is well known the pool has had issues and once the Town received more information regarding the Public Health Order, the decision was made to take measures to investigate along with further actions to try to resolve these issues. As a result of these investigations, we have made a difficult decision that even after the measures we have recently taken, there are major corrections that must still be made as it has been determined there is no quick fix to the current problems.
Accordingly, the Town will be taking steps by completing a major overhaul of the pool operations. Most of the modifications will be behind the scenes. The one exception will be the replacement of the pool liner which had reached the end of its expected usage period and would have had to be replaced within the next year anyway. It is expected that these modifications could take 6 months to complete.
It has always been our goal to have the pool back in operation as soon as possible and that goal remains.
We regret the inconvenience this will have on our residents and we thank everyone for their continued patience.
