The Director of Finance reports to the Senior Administrative Officer and is responsible for:

  • planning, directing and controlling financial and administration functions for the municipality
  • establishing financial policies procedures, controls and reporting systems
  • supervising general accounting, accounts receivable, collection and payroll

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education

  • professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) from a recognized accounting program
  • several years of senior financial and administrative experience

Knowledge

  • generally accepted accounting principles
  • computerized accounting systems
  • accounts payable and receivable
  • fund accounting
  • financial statement preparation
  • financial report preparation
  • administration of employee benefits
  • payroll systems and reporting
  • office administration
  • understanding of relevant municipal legislation, policies and procedures
  • understanding of Northern cultural and political environment
