Job Ad - Summer Employment Opportunities 

These positions are full-time (35 or 40 hours per week) summer term positions for the dates indicated.  These positions will involve the development and delivery of an outdoor summer sport, play and park program for youth.

The successful candidate will:

  • be between the ages of 16 and 30
  • be a Canadian citizen (or legally entitled to work in Canada)
  • be registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and will be returning as a full-time student in the next academic year
  • be respectful and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • have good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • be flexible and demonstrate sound work ethics

The successful candidate must pass a vulnerable sector criminal record check.

We are offering a pay rate of $20.81 plus $4.49 Northern living allowance, for a total gross wage of $25.30 per hour.

HEAD LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR - TERM - July 2, 2019 to June 30, 2020

Job Description - Head Lifeguard / Instructor

The successful candidate will:

  • be honest, trustworthy and dependable
  • be understanding of the northern cultural, rural and political environment
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • have at least three (3) years' experience developing, planning, executing and evaluating pool-related activities for all levels of swimmers
  • possess the following current Certifications:  National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor (Lifesaving Society), Lifesaving Instructor and Standard First Aid and CPR "C"

The preferred candidate will also possess one or more of the following Certifications:  National Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Instructor Trainer (Lifesaving Society), Lifesaving Instructor Trainer and First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.

Equivalencies recognizing related education and experience may be considered.

The successful applicant must pass a current RCMP issued Enhanced Reliability Screening.

The current starting salary is $29.13 per hour (approx. $60,590 per annum) with a Northern Allowance of $6.69 per hour (approx. $13,924 per annum).

LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR – CASUAL

The Town of Inuvik is looking for qualified Lifeguards and Instructors to work varied hours as a casual at the swimming pool.    We are flexible in accommodating your availability.

If you are interested in becoming qualified to Lifeguard and Instruct at the pool, let us know.

Successful candidates will:

  • Be honest, trustworthy and dependable
  • Be understanding of the northern cultural, rural and political environment
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Possess the following current Certifications: NLS, Swim Instructor, Life Saving Instructor, and Standard First Aid and CPR “C”

SPECIAL EVENTS ASSISTANT - 6 WEEK TERM - May 27, 2019 to July 5, 2019

Special Events Assistant - TERM

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a very adaptable team player who is also able to take initiative and work diligently on their own
  • Have strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, & Excel) and experience using social media in a professional setting
  • Demonstrate experience engaging professional groups, visitors, government agencies, community members, sponsors, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrate experience coordinating special events with the ability to take on multiple projects at one time
  • Have a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class 5 NT Driver’s License

Equivalencies recognizing related education and experience may be considered.

We are looking for an energetic, local resident of Inuvik to lend administrative and logistical support to the Director of Economic Development & Tourism as we prepare for a very busy tourism season including many community projects & events.

We are offering $29.71 per hour with an additional Northern Allowance of $7.36 per hour for a full time, 37.5-hour work week with opportunities for additional overtime. The schedule will vary, with evenings and weekends required due to the variety of activities.
