To arrange a burial please complete the following Online Burial Form (online Submission) or PDF Burial Form (print and submit at the town office). The application must be fully completed and submitted Seventy-two (72) hours before the requested date of interment. It must be accompanied by an original copy of the Death Certificate and an original burial permit. If coming from out of Town, copies of both can be submitted.

If you would like to place a monument or marker on a plot, please submit the Monument Permit Application. Please include the dimensions and attach a sketch of the monument. There is no fee for a monument permit.

Your role

• submit the monument permit application form
• place the monument within the confines of the plot (self or contractor); see page 5 Part 5 of the Cemetery By-law No. 2047/H&S/02 for dimensions
• inform the City of the installation date; this must be between June 1 and October 31 or before the first snowfall.
• maintain the monument and plot

Locate a loved one at the Inuvik Cemetery by using our online database. 

*Please note that the online database is still a work in progress as we hope continually to update it during the summertime when all snow is removed and the plots are visible. 

At the time of internment, flowers and wreaths, adornments, standards, plants, artificial or otherwise may be placed on a plot but may be removed by town staff when their condition is deemed to be detrimental to the general appearance of the Cemetery. 

Although the encourages all forms of adornments at a burial plot, for the safety of our staff and public, all break containers, (glass, plastic, and pottery) will be removed 2 months after internment. Additionally, during our summer maintenance period ornaments and other items will be removed and disposed of as we seek to continue enhancing the cemetery.

For the sake of environmental responsibility, the town encourages the use of natural flowers to reduce the volume of waste going to the landfill.

In the near future the town will be working to identify and develop an area for a Scattering Garden, to provide loved ones with a peaceful area where they can choose to A scattering garden is a peaceful area where you can choose to scatter the ashes of your loved ones upon it, allowing those who have passed away to remain a part of nature in a beautiful setting. A plaque can be purchased to memorialize a loved one. 

We will also continue to plant more trees and continue to plant more grass seeds and address the low-lying areas that are affected by water. 

Although the town strives to do as much maintenance and enhancements as possible, we encourage the family members who are interested in cleaning up and enhancing their loved one’s plot to please proceed as this contributes to the continued development of the cemetery. If need be we can provide some gravel, small rocks, as well as some tools to assist you whenever you are interested in improving your loved one's plot.
