Established in 1960, the Inuvik Fire Department is comprised of 35 to 40 on-call volunteer fire fighters managed and supervised by a full-time Fire Chief/Director of Protective Serivces.
Emergency services provided by our department include fire suppression, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, and limited specialized rescue.
Our membership is diverse and representative of the community we serve. No previous firefighting experience is necessary to join the department. Our volunteers undergo rigorous training under competent supervision to ensure safe operations.
Professional development provided by the Inuvik Fire Department meets international standards such as the National Fire Protection Association Professional Qualifications and the Northwest Territories Firefighter Code of Conduct.
Approximately 83% of firefighters in Canada are volunteers. Being a volunteer firefighter is a great and rewarding way to serve your community. If you are interested in joining our department, drop by the fire hall and pick up an application. Our weekly training takes place on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
