Construction of the Dempster Fiber Line now in progress in Inuvik

Posted on Wednesday September 20, 2023
PUBLIC NOTICE
September 20, 2023

Construction is underway for the Dempster fiber optic project in Inuvik, starting on Centennial Street, Wolverine Road, and Reliance Street.

Currently, our northern communities rely on a single fiber optic line, leaving us vulnerable to digital isolation during service interruptions.

The great news is that once this fiber line reaches Inuvik, it will seamlessly integrate with the existing Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link, establishing a robust 4,000-kilometer network. This ensures a backup line during disruptions, leading to more reliable internet and cellphone services for all.

This project is made possible through partnerships of Yukon Highway and Public Works and ROHL Global Networks, alongside collaboration with the public, private sector, NWT Indigenous groups, and Yukon First Nations.
